COMMISSION PROCESS

When you commission a portrait with me, it's a very simple process. We begin with photos...whether we arrange a photo shoot for you or if you have a photo you would like for me to paint.

If you have a photo you would like me to paint, you may email a copy to me and I will let you know if it can be used as reference for an oil portrait. Some photos are much better suited for portraits than others. Natural lighting is better than flash photography usually. It is helpful for me to see as many photos as possible of the subject. I can offer suggestions on which images would be best for a beautiful portrait.  When a vision for your portrait is reached, I will require a 50% deposit. You may pay via PayPal, Venmo or personal check. When the deposit is received, I will begin work on your painting.

For vintage and memorial portraits, sometimes older black and white photos are all that exist. I can usually add color to these if that is your wish.

If you need photos taken, we will schedule a photo shoot at your chosen location, and I will request that a 50% deposit be made at this time. I will travel within a 60 mile radius of my home in Western Kentucky. We can discuss by email or phone your ideas about the portrait regarding mood and setting, clothing and background, size and where the portrait may be hung. The photo shoot usually lasts 1-2 hours. After reviewing the photos, I will choose the best poses and expressions and proceed in making preliminary sketches. I will email the sketches to you for your review. Upon approval of a preliminary sketch and when the final size of the canvas has been determined, I will begin painting your portrait.

If you live outside of my travel radius, you will need to provide a selection of photos of the subject for me. Please see photo guidelines.

When the portrait is finished, I will send a digital image to you for your approval, and arrangements will be made for the portrait to be delivered or shipped.  I will offer framing advice and arrange to have the portrait framed before it is delivered, if you like. The final cost of your portrait will be adjusted accordingly, based on shipping costs or mileage for delivery and framing preferences. Upon receipt of the remaining 50% balance (plus the above fees if applicable) your portrait will be delivered/shipped to you.

Current delivery time is approximately 4-6 weeks.

ALL PORTRAITS ARE GUARANTEED...Your satisfaction is my utmost priority.
